(From Our Own Correspondent.) April 19.— The s.s. Drayton Grange has finiihod loading and has sailed for Tiro-ru. The following is a list of the cargo taken: — 292/ quarters beef, 10234 caicaso* lamb, 207 casks tallow Of this quantity 388 quarters beef and 10 carcases veal wore brought by the s.s. Mana from Pa tea, on account or the Patea Freezing Co. I am indebted to Mr J. \\hite. our siationmaster, for the follow ing returns for the Waitara railway station forthe month of March : — Passengers 2986, season/ tickets 14, parcels 189. horses 8, carriages 2, dogs 29, cattle 168 sheep 15,851. pigs 24/, 126 % t0ns chaff, 200 bales wool. Io7;600 feet timber. 40 : tons grain, 290 tons merchandise, r < tons coal, 111 tons other minerals. Revenue, £1105 9s «d. The election of Mayor and Councillors for this borough takes place on Wednesday, the 29th inst. As several sitting members have publicly stated their intention of retiring into private life, we shall doubtless see an infusion ( of new blood. It is generally admitted the outgoing Council has been a hardworking one. and with the funds at its disposal did its best for the ratepayers generally. Tho name* of Mofsi-s Birdling. E." Dugdale, .1. RattenJmry. and WiTkos are mentioned as aspirants for inunicip»»l honours. The gold medals donated by Mr A T. Lake, of the Club Hotel, for the bet whaleboat crew were presented tr> tho winning cretv, Messrs D. George and P. Mortinson, by the vice-presi-dent of the club, Mr W. F. Penbery, at the recent Clifton social. The news of the sad end of Jockey Willie O'Connell was received with creat regret here. The deceased was well known locally, being tra»ner for Mr P. E.
