KILLING A FRUIT PEST.

NELSON. Sept. 9. The action taken by the Government Pomologist and bis staff of inspectors in dealing with the San Jose scale in and about the city has caused a great deal of discussion among orchardists. Mr. T. W. Kirk, Government Biologist, is at present on a visit to the district. In an interview with a representative of the Colonist to-day he gave a general denial to the statements that the requirements of the inspectors had been unduly harsh. The examination made showed that of seventy properties in the province affected sixty-one were situated in Toi Toi Valley, a portion of the city which was crowded with small gardens, and tho pest had beon found on trees in back gardens. The inspectors had not exceeded the requirements of the situation.
