GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE
ASKED.
Per Press Astociatiou.
WELLINGTON, July 20.
An Otago deputation waited on the Premier to ask help for settlers suffering from drought in North and Central Otago. It was stated that so little rain had fallen for two years that stock could not get feed except at an exorbitant cost. Mention was made of precedents, relief having been given during a severe winder some twelve years ago. It was suggested that freights might be reduced on the railways and sheep carried one way free.
The Premier promised the mat tor immediate attention. If there was to be serious loss to the colony, ho said, something would have to be done.
