School Vacations.

CONCERT BY CONVENT SCHOOL PUPILS.

There was a large attendance at j St. Joseph's Sohoblrooin last eveni- j ing, when the I pupils of the ! Convent High and Select Schools'! gave their annual concert. The programme was certainly a very pleasing one, and. the Sisters 'must have devoted a lot of time to the training' of the performers, who were all letter-perfect in their respective performances. The ' programme was divided into two parts, the first boing contributed by the pupils of the j Select School and the second by 1 those of the Hi£h School. MisSas Jones and Foote played an overture ni<?el3% ..nijd, then the senior and junior, boys, sang Ayitlrj great vim. the. [oHqiais "Massa's in do Coldy Cold, 'Ground."* A -dialogue *by Master J*. 6'Grady, W. Francis and John Grey was diverting, the, boys speakingitheir lines well. .The Junior boys entered into the spirit of the action I song "Happy Children," and tho j Seniors did equally well in "The Mulligan Gjuands.** A dialogue by Masters O'G r nady, J. Jans, and B. Clarke caused some merriment, -as did that in which Miss 15. Twohy and Master E. Clarke took part. The action' songs by the girls were cleverly.given, "National Emblems" being particularly godd. In the 1 second part of the programme Misses Whitton, ' Grey Heartn, Clarke, E. Sutton, ami Stoddart played a trio (two j Ipianos), "II Trovatore," and ac- j Quitted themselves well, the time be- j ing good. The senior pupils followed, with a . nocturne, and then . Miss Phyllis Sheffield" prettily recited "Hpme." A gavotte oy Misses Hawkins, Dixon, Clarke, Stoddart, E. Sutton, Pauline Sntton, and D. Sheffield was one of the most attractive of the items, the dressing and dancing : being very praiseworthy. Misses Whittori and He^arne gave evidence of considerable musical ability in their instru.men.tal solo, and the same remark r applies to. the violin duet, (with piano and organ accompaniment by Misses Ryan and Clarke) by Misses Dixon and M. and B. Biddell, and the duet "To Arms'' V;y Misses P. Whitton, B. Jennings, M. Calgher, and P. Sutton. "Doll Drill," an action flbng by the junior pupils was quaint, ' while the- Flower drill (senior pupils) was, perhaps, the best item of the evening. A dialogue, "Four Celebrated .Characters," takon part in by Misses P-. _ Sheffield, C. Moroney, K. Bennett, and ID. Bennett, was aniusing. Miss Hawkins deserved the encore ' she received for. her tasteful singing of "The Little Newsboy," and her younger sister, Miss Gladys Hawkins, gave a surprisingly good solo (rendered more effective by a pretty tableau) "Out in the Snow." The audieaee appeared to be thoroughly well pleased with the entertainment.
