TARANAKI COUNTY COUNCIL
Tbe Coonty Council meeting was held on Monday, and was attended by Mefsrs H. Okey (chairman), McDonald, George, l(?pptr, McCnllum, Tate, Phillips, and Price. Mr Phillips, who succeeds Mr Caddy tit one of the Parihaka Riding representatives, took his seat for the first time. Several works recommended in the foremen b reports were authorised. W. Barnard'B attention is to be directed to the faol that ref nse'ia being thrown in the Mangaptuku stream. • / It was decided to do pertain repairs to the :Ngatoro iti. bridge, as suggested by the bridge;carpenter. . A letter was read from Mr T. 0. Kelsey, secretary ,of the ' Twanaki Farmtrs' Club, asking tke Council's cooperation in the matter of destroying small birds.— Mr McDonald .favoured the Council granting some assistance, and he moved that £6 be toted for the purpose. — Messrs Phillips, and McCullum supported the proposal, expressing the hood that the poisoning would be carried out in a proper manner .—Mr Lepper did not think the Couocil was elected to kill birds ; making loads was its butiness, and he therefore objected to the vote. — The motiori~was carried. An application was made by. the Wai<* mate Road Board for the use of the stone crubher, but as the Council wss doubtful it it. could do without the crusher during the season, no action was taken. The Council went into Committee to consider proposals for the erection of Te Ngamu bridge. On resuming, it was decided to call tenders for building the structure. J. H. MtGoe was granted a lease of the gravel reserve at Waiwakaiho, at £1 per annum, he having cleared off all the blackberries. Complaint wbs made by a native that gravel was beirjg taken from Big Jim's pit by persoos unauthorised by the Council. It Tas decided to lock the reserve and to hand the- key to the foreman, irom whom permission will have to be obtained before any gravel is removed ' Several replies were received from (/ounty Councils in the colony endorsing the Council s protest against the cost ot the recent valuation. On Mr Tate'a motion, the Council decided to place the resolution passed by the Council in the hinds of the member for the district The tender of Messrs D. Berry and Co. for feupply of cement at 17." 3d per cask, delivered at Durham Road or Inglewood, was accepted. Mr Lepper gave notice of his intention to move, " That tenders be called for metslliDg the Mountain Koad from Sentry Hill to the maiu North Road." Accounts is ere passed and the Council adjourned.
