THE GYMNASIUM CLUB.

THE Gymnasium Club terminated its first quarter on Tuesday evening. The members have shown great improvement during the last month under the supervision of the new director, Mr T. Tankard. The new system introduced has given general satisfaction. There are no less than four mass exercises each evening, and they are so arranged as to meet the requirements of all. Mr Tankard works under tbe system adopted by the National Physical Recreation Society of Great Britain, and holds the Society's diploma and medal. He was for three years junior director to the V.M.C.A. Gymnasium, Sheffield, England, and his exercises are based upon a theoretical knowledge combined with that of practical' experience. The exercises given are not done so with a view of training men how to fly through spaco, or to do all kinds of acrobatic feats, but for physical education and body building pure and simple. The same system is employed in all the principal colleges and schools at Home, and is strongly advocated by the medical fraternity. The next quarter commences on Friday evening next, and it is hoped that many will avail themselves of this opportunity of spending a pleasant evening, combined with that of receiving personal benefit. We understand it is Mr Tankard's intention " shortly to commence private classes, and amongst them one for ladies and one also for children. Any person wishing to view the exercises may obtain permission from any member of the committee or from the director.
