CUSTOMS RETURNS.

We are indebted to Mr H. Bedford, Collector of Customs, for the following return of duties collected at the Port of New Plymouth for the month of June, 1896:-

Captain Edwin wired at noon to-day :— " Same indications as wired yesterday."

An action for malicious prosecution will probably be the sequel of the alleged horse-rug stealing case.

The Freezing Works at Moturoa are now practically completed. This (Wednesday) afternoon, a trial of the machineiy was made in the presence of several of the directors.

An excellent programme for the entertainment in the Catholic schooolroom tomorrow night appears in this issue. All those taking part ore requested to meet at the schoolroom at 7.30 p.m. to-night.

Mr E. Withy, a well-known Auckland exponent of the single-tax theory, will give an address at the Mutual Improvement Society on Thursday evening on " The single tax, or why should ground rent be nationalised ?

Mr J. D. Billens, representative of Mr Loasby, the manufacturer of'Waho," has been in town the last few days, pushing the sale of the now well-known remedy, concerning the merits of which large numbers of testimonials continue to be received.

Mr W. J. Shaw reports the sale of Mr E. A. Forster's section and dwelling in St. Aubyn-st'reet to Mr H. O. Topham, manufacturer of baxing powder, &c; also of Mm Gibbes' property in Vivian-street (at present occupied by Dr Christie), to Mr F. S. Canning, wine and spirit merchant.
