COAL EXPORT.
Westport, May IS. The Cardiff Company have chartered a steamer to take 1000 tons of coal to LADIES ON SCHOOL COMMITTEES At a meeting of the School Committee a lady member made a persistent effort to have two members of the Committee unseated, on the ground that they were disqualified by being members of the Civil Service. The Chairman ruled it was a question for the Board. There were some sharp infjrehanges between the lady and other members. At Wa'tnangaroa the lady Chairman was assailed by rude remarks from'other ladies amongst the pablic. DEMAND FOR LAND. Doneoin, May 13. Applications for the Ardgowan Estate have been received from 1635 persons, equal to over 7000 individual applications. AUSTRALIAN MUTUAL PROVIDENT SOCIETY. Dunedin, May 14. A private cable reports the election of Messrs Meeks and Short to the A.M.P, directorate. Both of them are opposed to the extension of the Society's business to Gieat Britain.
