London, May 12. — There was a largo attendance at the second day's piny. The weather wa3 splendid and the wicket was in excellent condition and played firstrate. Additional worses :—

Jones and McKibbin opened the bowling for the Australians, and fast ones from the former thrice struck Grace in tbe ribs in the first over. The veteran batted brilliantly, and scored 50 in half an hour. With the score at 57, Jones changed ends, and with his first ball dismissed Jackson ; then a rot set in, and was not checked until Ranjitsinjhi appeared at the wickets. He batted faultlessly, bis cutting, driving, and pulling being very fine. In ono over he scored 13, but was eventually deposed by Jones, who mado a magnificent one banded catch in tho long field. Lilley's batting was very stylish, and he too was dismissed with a one handed catch. Altogether the fielding of the Australians was excellent, and Jones's p&ce created a great impression.

Jone» took 7 wiokets for 84 runs McKibbin, 1 for 38 ; Eady, 1 for 22 Giffen, 0 for 46.

Trott and Grace lunched at the Royal table yesterday. London, May 13. — The Australians have lost 7 wickets for 173, o£ which Darling scored 35. The batting of the team was only moderate until Trott and Hill became associated, when a good stand wob mado. Thero were frequent changes in the bowling, and a separation was not effected uutil Hill played one on his wicket. Trott is not out with 47.

Hearn and Mold began bowling in the second innings, und the latter was relieved with the score at 49.
