AQUATICS.
NEW ZEALANDERS IN SYDNEY.
DEFINITION OF AN AMATEUR,
[PEIt TRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Sydney, May 13. — McCormiok, the New Zealand sculler, is making satisfactory progress under Neilson.
The four continue to do good work, although no one is sanguine of victory. It is expected that McCoimick will make a good raco of it.
The New South Wales Rowing Association bavo decided to allow their delegates at tho Australasian Rowing Conference a free hand in all matters except on the question of the " Amateur" definition to govern future intercolonial contests ; then the delegates will urge that tho definition to be adopted shall be tho definition in force in New South Wales, but the delegates will bo at liberty to concede a provision excluding manual labor amateurs. They will not give way on tho inclusion of men " employed in or about boats," which caused the disqualification of the Queon's Drive crew of New Zealand. Tho New South Wales Associations also declined to comply with the request of the New Zealand Rowing Association that the distance for inter* colonial fours bo increased from Z\ to 3 miles.
Speaking to a Press Association representative a leading member of tho New South Wales Rowing Association emphatically stated that that body would not allow under any circumstances a fisherman to row in intercolonial contests.
