DEATH OF HENRY McLEAN.

HON. Mr REEVES IN nAWERA. Uaweua, December 2.

The Hon. Mr Reeves was l iora on Ssit'ir lay night and was waited on by deputation of local builders, who asked that the public (>uiMing3 bo erected by contract instead of by co-operative labor. Mr Ueeves promised to refer tho matter to Wellington.

Henry McLean, aged 24, sou of Mr George McLean, an old and respected settler, died this moruing. He whs injured in a football match last Queen's Birthday, receiving a spinal injury, and ha 3 been confined to his bed ever since.

Mr H. D. Bell addressed his con stituents last night. The Mayor presided. The speaker reviewed the work of the session, his remarks generallj being condemnatory of the Government policy, except in respect to the Liquor Bill, which he regarded as an advanco on pr«vious legislation. No vote was proposed.

Thomas Williams, a seaman on the barque Alice, bus been arrested on a charge of wounding Derry Hughes, an apprentice in the ship Pleione. Ihc affair arose out of a row shortly after midnight. Hughes was stabbed in five places, none being serious.
