AUSTRALIAN TELEGRAMS.

Melbourne, November 80. The Government Pathologist has discovered a disease known as "Water Rot," which has carried off a thousand sheep in the western district. It has as its immediate host one of the commonest of fresh water snails. A similar discovery was recently made in New South Wales, but the host there is of a different species of snail.

Owing to the drought, crops of beans and peas are not expected to go over 15 bushels to the acre, which is much below the average. Last year there was half a million acres cut for hay, but this year it will not exceed 800,000 acres, and the average yield will not be over 15cwt. por acre, which is tho lowest rate for many years.
