UP PER MANGOREI.
[ruo-.t ouii iiwn coßßi:sro ,•. \ r.] Ariur, 23.— The annual m tting of householders was held in tl; ; Upper Mangorci schoohoom on April 22. for the purpose of electing a new roniunittee for tb" Mangorei School District. T>ie zhow oi. ii,-n<l» 10-.ul-'sd i;i Mcobn, J. I3io-,.n Q. Uuni-, V/. 11. Coad, W. J. JTimbly], and It. li. Roy being elected. Tho now committee chose Mr Brown as chairman and Mi- Roy to sign cheques with him. Au application was received to allow dancing classas to be held in the upper schoolroom during the coming winter, but consideration was deferred till next meeting, as no business except election of committee, &c, could be transacted that night. However, the tendency was e>i- ! dently to allow dancing under certain ' restrictions. Mr James Upjohn's accident is much regretted, and all hope to hear of his apoedy recovery. Hia brother, Thomas, has not yet recovered the use of an arm that was broken a short time ago through a fall from his horse. I hear that Messrs Wade, M. Carrick, W. H. Coad, and Jordan were nominated as Road Commissioners on Saturday. Pheasants aro wonderfully numerous, owing partly, no doubt, to the quantities of maizo grown in the district this year. One farmer, who had a small patch of Indian corn, lost it all through these birds. The ranges have proved a great attraction to picnic parties during the summer, and access baa been made fairly easy, as, through the liberality of Mr C. F. Richmoud, tho old track has been cleared of scrub and repaired. It is a pity that the Board having control of this part of the Forest Reserve cannot see its way to spending a few shillings on the Mangorei track. Perhaps the wonderful tank at the mountiin house that, at latest accounts, cost £26 has been too much for their limited funds.
