STRATFORD NEWS.

[FROM OUR RESIDENT AGENT] September 18. — A meeting was held last night to resuscitate the Fire Brigade. The institution was formed a year or two ago and a few buckets procured, ladders ordered, &c, but there was not much vitality in the movement, and it soon dropped. The late fire has roused the people to the necessity of doing something, as it is painfully evident that without organisation we are collectively a helpless mob at a fire. Mr Tocker, secretary of the dormant Brigade, presided at the meeting and explained the position. A resolution was then carried appointing a committee to canvass the town for support and to take charge of i the fire engine expected from Waitara, the committee to report at another general meeting to be held on Monday noxt. It was then proposed to take down the names of thoso present who would join the Brigade. This was done, about 40 names being handed in. The meeting then adjourned, the Com-mittee-men remaining to arrange details of the canvass. A house to houso canvass of the town will be made, and a public picnic and ball held on November 9th. The Insurance Companies, the Town Board, :iud the County Council will be asked to assist.
