TARANAKI COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Taranaki County Council mot on W«dnesday. Present: Messrs Price (Chairman), Whitehouse, Lepper, W. Bayly, Strauchan, Kyngdon, Adlam, and J. Elliot. Accounts. —The ordinary accounts were passed with the exception of the voucher for hospital contribution, which was held back for the purpose of seeing if some arrangements could not be arrived at by whish the Stratford County Council could pay "their share of contribution themselves. Claim For Compensation. —A lotter was received from R. Snell, on behalf of W. •Tordan, claiming £25 compensation for damage done to a trap on the Junction Road. —lt was agreed that the lotter should be acknowledged, stating that the Council recognised no liability. North Road* —Mr Elliot stated that a portion of the North Road in Waitara township had got into a bad state owing to the overgrowth 01 furze and choking of water tables, and moved that a sum not exceeding £25 be expended on the work.—Mr Lepper second the motion. —Mr Bayly moved as an amendment that the overseer be instructed to inspect and report on the above work.—Seconded by Mr McDonald. The amendment was earned. , Dog Tax. —lt was decided that tbe tax for cattle dogs be 2s 6d, and for all others 6s." —lt was agreed that the Chairman should make .the best arragement with the Inspector "of Police as to the, collection of the tax. lenders to he Called.—lt was decided to call for tenders for the supply of dog collars, and letting the toll gates for the year 1892.' Auditor-GeneraVs Award. —A letter was received from the Stratford County, enclosing cheque of amount of award of Auditor General, Rahota Gravel Befcrvs. —A letter was received from the Survey-General, stating that * tho gravel reserve applied for at Rahotu could not be vested in the Council, as it was required for Government p»rposes. Bad Entrance.—'Mr A. H. Moore, of Opunake, wrote on behalf of Mr Standish, complaining of condition of entrance to a cottage property at Opunako. —Letter to be acknowledged. Opunake Town Board.—The secretary of the Opunake Town Board wrote, asking the Council to subsidise the Board to carry out certain improvements to footpaths and watertables in tho town —Tt was resolved that the Council had bo objection to the Town Board doing tbe work, but the Council had no funds to expend on the work specified. .nglewoocl.—Mr Cold well, of Inglewood,appeared, and stated that the Town Board had cut up the footpath in front of his hotel, and thereby had caused much inconvenience and damage. —lt was decided that tho members for the Moa Riding be authorised to confer with tho Inglewood Town Board on the matter, and report at next meeting. Countersign Cheques. —Mr J. Elliot wan authorised to countersign cheques in the absence of the clmiunan. Accou its —Accounts amounting to £462 16s 9J were passsed for payment.
