PETITIONS AGAINST RETURN OF 1 MEMBERS. Auckland, January . 14. — A copy of the petition against the return of Mr Allen, member for Te Aroba, has been lodged at the Supreme Court. It alleges that Mr | Allen did not by letter or telegram signify his consent to nomination, and that he did . not appoint a scrutineer to each or any' ballot box. ' That 1 the Agent working on -his behalf paid money to electors to vote for Mr Allen, and that a canvasser was employed at JE4 per week, to promote his return. Reefton, January 14. — A petition against Air Reeves for Inangahua states that be . allowed the provisions of the Act as regards the finding of bondsmen to go until it was too late. The preliminary expenses have been heavy. Counsel has been employed, and • have stated* their opinion that Mr Drake would be elected over the head of Mr Reeves. Thinking something further conld be done, Sir R. Stout was again consulted, bat returned an answer that nothing could be done. Ddnedin, January 14. — The Opposition Whip has issued a circular requesting the members of that party to meet in Welling' ton not later than January 22nd, the day before the opening of Parliament.
