A seedy looking man entered a Sixth Avenue saloon the other morning, and sidling up to *.he bar, where the bar-tender eyed him suspiciously, lie began — " Gooci morning, sir. I see by the papera that the Liquor Dealers' Association is preparing ■'o assert and maintain its rights as a combination of bu&mess men oppressed by the injustice and ■wrong heaped upon them, by an infamous excise board. Give me a little brandy, please." '• We tpve nothing hero, and brandy ia 25 cents a pony." "As 1 was saying, this i 3 a free country, and liquor dealers have their right 3as well as other bard labouring people. But they won't get ♦.hem unless they organise. They must beat the hell hounds who oppress them at any cost. I think I'll take a little whisky, please." •• I'm lot here to give away whisky. It costs money, and if you can't pay for it, go away.' •' i'oi; are engaged in an honorable calling, but you 3till have a mission to perform. The seedy man slowly backed to the door, and said — '• You'll bounce me, will you ?" " I will so, and pretty quickly, too," said the bar-lender. '• W e.i, then, do you knov what I intend to do?'' " I don't know, nor care," shouted the other. " I'm in with the Prohibitionists from this day, and I'll shut up every infernal rum-hole in the city in less than a week if it cos<is me a million dollars !" --■ ' ♦ " ■ ■
