STRIKE A* EGMONT BOOT FACTORY.
The strike at tho Egmont Boot Factory shows no fresh development. The five men who went out on Thursday are still firm in their determination to scj the matter out, but at present they are mystified as to the conduct of tho secretary of the Auckland Union who called them oat. The secretary in Auckland wired congratulating them on the stand they had taken, and telling them to stand iirm ; but tho proprietois also received v telegram frorfPtho same personage disclaiming in a way the onusof calling- the men out. Mr Oakes, the resident secretary here, has resigned, and the positiou has been taken by Mr Sullivan. The men say they 'lo not want Allan to be " sacked," but they consider that they are stopped in earning better wages because Allan is too slow iv cutting. They consider that Allan should do bench work like themselves, and earn the wages there on piecework that any competent bootmaker can make. There appears to bo no sigus of sctllenvjnt of Hie dispute, as the proprietors refuse to agree to the points raised by the men.
