FIRST DIRECT SHIPMENT.
The first direct shipment of frozen bcief and mutton from this district, which will take placo next week, is causing a great deal o£ comment;. The large cargo steamer Matatua, of the Shaw Savill and Albion Line, will arrive on Tuesday, and will anchor off the mouth of tho Waitara river. The steamer is registered at 5,000 ton-<, and is in charge of Captain MoDougall. Tho meat will bd taken out to her in >i large punt, which will bo towed out by the tug Waitara. It is expected that the loading will take two or three days at the least. The local agent of the steamer, Mr J. Gilmour, has received a telegram giving the date of the steamer's arrival here, and also indicating that Captain Babot, the general supervisor of the steamers in tho colony, will arrive by the Wanaka on Tuesday, from Wellington. A stall: of workmen have been engaged for the work, and all other preparations made to ensure the shipment of moat being put on board as expeditiously as possible. Judging by tho interest that is being taken in the matter, there will be a largo crowd of visitors at Waitara on Tuesday next to witness the arrival of the first direct boat in Taranaki waters.
