THE ENGLISH ELECTIONS.

ELECTIONS TERMINATED. GLADSTONE'S PARTY DEFEATED. [REOTER'S OOPVRIGHT TELEGRAMS.] The final result of the elections, as sent by Beuter, is as follows: — Conservatives... 327 I Gladstoneites... 187 Unionists ... 77 | Pamellites ... 87 401 274 There appears to be something wrong abont these figures, although they are as forwarded by Reuter, for the totals show 678 elected, and there are only 670 seats in the House of Commons. No doubt the mistake of the figures has occurred in tho transmission from London, and will be rectified later on. The following are the latest telegrams from London respecting the eleotions :—: — London, July 12.— Tho election returns oi Saturday's election show that the former Liberal seats Sutherland and Tyneside have been secured by supporters of Gladstone. Tremendous exertions are being made to unseat the Marquis of Hart, .iugton. Up to tho 9th July, 714,000 ayes and 776,000 noes had been recorded for and against Mr. Gladstone in constitueuoies which at the general elec tion in November last had given him a majority of 73,000 votes. Mr. Gladstone denies a statement made to tho effect that he had received suggestions from Irish Americaus regarding his Home Rule proposals. Sir John Lubbock (London University), the Right Hon. D. Plunket (Dublin University), and the Right Hon. H. Holmes (Dubliu University), have been re-elected members of the House of Commons.
