THE HARBOUR WORKS.
The committee appointed by the Board to consider tho question of roduction of wages and other economical measures met at tho works this morning. Present : Messrs. T. Kin» (chairman), Bayly, Paul, Connett, Shuttleworth, and Corkill. It was unanimously resolved that the wages of the men enployod ou tho works should bo reduced as follows :—: — QaABRV, — Ganger at 9i. per day ; 10 quarrymen (G quarrymen at 75., driver at 75., and 4 labourers at ss. per day.) Mixing-house and Blockyahd. — Foreman at 9s. per day; 14 labourers (8 at sa. 61, 4 at 6?., 1 at Os. 6\., boy at 4-. 2d.) ; oo»in a -driver, 95.; pattern-maker, 7s. 61. ; sailmaker, 93.; horse driver, 6s. 6d.; crane driver, 55.; Goliah .driver, 9d. Breakwater. — Foreman, 9s. per day ; labourers, 6s ; divers, 7s. Shops. — 2 blacksmiths, Bs. per day; 2 strikers, Ga; 3 carpenters, 7s; — masons, 8s; locomotive drivers 6s. 6J. The reductions for the most part are about le. a day. It was resolved, "Tint the duties of storekeeper and timekeeper be performed by Mr. McAllnm, with the assistance of a boy"; also resolved, " That, instead of discharging tho harbour-master, his services bo retained at a salary of £150 per annum with house rent free." It was resolved that the boatmen's wages remain as hitherto, \iz., £'2 10s. per week. It was resolved that Mr. Deacon's services be dispensod with. It was resolved that Mr. Scherer'd pay be reduced to £3 12s. per week. Tho Committee adjourned.
