STRANGE DIVORCE CASE. [TELEGRAPHED BY PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

Wellington, October 6. — At the Divorce Sittings in November, the case of Edwards v. Edwards and Remington will be heard. The petitioner is a resident, and seeks for n dissolution of marriage on the ground of adultery and desertion. The petition sets forth that the parties were married on October 24, 1870, at the parish church of St. Clements, Hastings, in the county of Sussex. The couple resided in England for a short time/and afterwards emigrated to New Zealand. They lived at Bulls, Wellington, and Napier, and it was whilst the husband was carrying on business in the latter place that respondent deserted him and went to cohabit with a Chemist in the Kungitikci District. The issue of the marriage was five children, three of whom, aged 13, 11, and 10 years respectively, nre now alive.

The polling for the return of a member to fill the vaccant seat in the Borough Council for the East Ward will take place on Monday next, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Ratepayers can record tlrir votes in the Court room, Town Hall ; at Mr. Bleasel's house on Poverty Flat ; and Mr. Rawson's residence, corner of Devon and Hobson-strects.

Woodyear's Circus was again well patronised last evening, and several fresh novelties vverc introduced into the programme, tho Japanese acrobat doing some jvondorful feats. Mr. Bullance, the editor of tho Wangnnui Herald, has been on a visit to this district; and, accompanied by Mr. J. Thompson, the Consulting Engineer to tho Harbour Board, paid a visit to the Harbour Woiks at Moturoa yesterday. We uro pleased to learn from Mr. Bullance that he considers the breakwater a success ; and was altogether very pleased with what ho saw there.

Owing to tho want of interest shown by the old proprietors of the Beach Bathing House in the management and preservation of; their property, tho Committee have determined to try the effect of reorganisation. They propose to secure the interest and assistance of! tho most prominent of our sea bathers by dividing tho proprietary into 30 shares of 10s. each. Fioin the new members it is hoped that an active Committeo will bo chosen, and that all will unite in saving the premises from the attacks of larrikins. As tho Cub is about £30 in debt, the old Commiltoo will have to "stump up" übout £15 out of their own pockets.
