ELECTION NEWS.

Tho natives have inserted an advertisement in -tho, Nort horn Luminary, stating that the row at Matarau was caused by Lundon advancing money on land. The Ngapuhi chiefs have taken the land in trust, and ft resolution was passed that no Maori should record his vote for Lundon in tho coming election.

Wellington Country District. — Messrs. Izard and O'Neill, candidates for tho Wellington Country District, addressed the electors at Makara and Karori respectively. The former received a vote of confidence, and Mr. Izard a vote of thanks,

Wairarapn.— The full returns arc— Bcetham, 800 ; Bunny, 581 ; Pharazyu, 525. Nelson City (2). — Messrs. Pitt aud Adams were elected by a large majority for Nelson City. ,

;Mr. Shcchau intended to have addressed the Franklyn electors at Howick, but having to leave for Napier, Messrs. Moss and Tole met them instead. A vote of confidence was passed in Sir G. Grey as a Liberal leader, aud Hamlin and Harris as candidates for Franklyn.

Auckland City Wost (2).— Dr. Wallis, 1045; #r. W. J. Hurst, 1010 j Mr. Stark, 232 ; Mr. Newman, 128.

Bay of Islands. — At the nomination, the show of hands was — Wi Kato, 10 ; Williams, 12 ; McLuod, 11 ; Lundon, 3. Polling on the 10th.

Mr. Shechan left in the Glonehj for Tauranga, and: rides .thence to Ohntouiuri ovorland to Napjor to meet tho electors before the Clivc polling. East Coast; — Mr. McDonald's present majority is 124. Tljerc are other stations to come in, but his return is certaiii.

It is rumoured that steps will bo taken to get Mr. Whitakcr to stand for the Thames when a soat becomes vacant. •
