RALEIGH TOWN BOARD.

Tub Town Board of Raleigh held its, usual monthly meeting on the 3rd Septembpr. Present: Mr. F. L. Webster (Chairman), Messrs. D. Telfar, B. C. Lawronco, and J. Pennington. '

Mo Lean-street. — The petition for the formation of a footpath was deferred until next meeting of the Board. ' Levels. — It was resolved that information should be obtained as to the cost of having the permanent levels taken of that portion of tho town bounded north by Whitaker-strect ; south by Parris-strcet ; west by Grey-street ; anil east by the river. Run*. — It was resolved that tho ruus be advortiacd for sale by auction. New Members, — The Returning Officer was instructed to proceed with the election of two members in place of Messrs. Lawrence and Telfar who retire by rotation. Native Rates. — It was determined to take steps for tho recovery of rates from native owners of sections.

Day Labourer. — It was resolved to appoint a day labourer to the Board. Domett-street. — It was resolved to call for tenders for the formation of a portion of Domett-street.

Accounts.— Tho following, accounts were passed for payment : — J. Carponter, £15 55. ; McMauus, £12 55. ; Lccdom, £4 5 Webster, 55. ; Skinner, £10 10*. Cd. The Board then adjourned.

Wo have to acknowledge tho receipt of an invitation from the Committee of the To Whiti Minstrel Troupe to bo present at an entertainment which will take place this evening, at Pukearuhc Camp, enclosing a programme of the performance. We can only express our regret that the distance prevents our being present, or wo should have had very much pleasure in accepting the invitation which has been kindly forwarded to us.

At ono of the schools in Cornwall, England, the Inspector asked the children if they coald quote any text of scripture which forbado a man having two wives. Oue of the children eagely quoted in reply the toxfc, "No man can servo two masters." ,
