April 14. The reclamation atThorndon goes on apace giving the vicinity of railway station a very bustling appearauce. The ' Easby' to-day* took seventy passengers for Sydney, and a full cargo. It is confidently anticipated that she is but the pioneer of a line fleet of steamers which will be laid on between the two ports ere long. No more changes in the Times office. Several of the officers who could have remained deoliue to do so and have given notice. Great additions are beiug made to Presbyterian Church, Willis-street. Nr. Ballaucc is certain to be returned for Rangitikei. April 15. At a meetiag of the Chamber of Commerce, the scale of mercantile charges which had been prepared was adopted, subject to the following alterations and additions : — collecting and remitting rents, sto [?] per cent. ; for collecting and remitting interest, o to 10 per cent. ; on procuring moneys on mortgage, Ito 2J per cent.; and on English and Foreign BilU, 10 per cent. In consequence of several instances haviug come to the knowledge of the Commissioner of' Customs of the receipt in Colopy of two invoices of the same goods, one being of smaller value than the other (evidently sent to defraud the Customs in ad valorem duty), and of shippers sending parcels of goods enclosed in packages without being included in invoices, tho Commissioner has given strict orders to officers of Customs to have all packages shipped by firms known to have acted as above described opened and thoroughly examined on anival in this Colony. Palea, April 14. The first issue of tho Patea. Mail, a biweekly, was published to-day, by Joseph Ivess, late proprietor of the Greymouth Star.
