GIRL GUIDES.

CAMP IN TEMUKA DOMAIN. Under the command of Adjutant Nelson, of the Christchurch division of the Salvation Army, there are at present camping in Teniuka’s picturesque Domain some 50 Salvation Army Girl Guides, who are representatives of the various troops in the provinces of Canterbury and Westland, but principally from the Sydenham, Linwood, St. Albans and / Waimate corps. Associated with Ad- ’ * jutant Nelson are Regimental-Leader E. Lewis and Camp Matron Mrs (Major) Bear, in the proper control and care of the Guides. In order to give full effect to the principles underlying the Guides — “to save and to serve”—the girls are being given practical instruction and training in childcraft, home nursing, indoor and outdoor accidents, and the like. The campers are quartered in the main pavilion, b'trt take their meals in the adjacent shed near the baths. Their meals are prepared by the local officers of the Salvation Army, but the girls themselves carry out the ordinary camp duties. W The parties were heartily ■welcomed to the town by His Worship the Mayor (Mr T. E. Gunnion), who* has spared no effort to see that the visitors were made comfortable. Commenced on Boxing Day, the camp will extend over ten days. The girls are more than delighted with, the prospects of a pleasant and instructive holiday, and the lighter side of the camp is being well catered for, a local resident having, generously given the use of a piano, and two gramophones are in evidence.
