To the Editor. Sir,—Your' ree'ent ' correspondents have roundly condemned the slogan chosen by the Business Men's Association from the various efforts -received in the late competition; These? persons have evidently .set up in their respective minds an erroneous idea of the requirements of a slogan; and as the phrase, "Choose Charming Temuka," does not fit in with this idea, they immediately condemn without consideration. It does not require" ability or brains to destroy* and -it is very noticeable that no constructive criticism is offered: Probably any effort on the part of. "Vox Populi" or "Ex-Pupil" would be as pointless as their wordy, epistles. The former correspondent .attempts to belittle the slogan by objecting to the words "Choose" and "Charming." "Choose Charming Temuka"' immediately suggests to the reader that he should select Temuka because it is charming—-and the object of a slogan is .thereby achieved. Is Temuka not'"charming? Only those' devoid of a sense of beauty would say that this town is not attractive; and this'is the accepted meaning of the word.' It is a pity that your correspondent is "sharply .disappointed" (? wonder in which portion' of the anatomy lie felt it most?) The suggestion that the Borough Council should take the matter up will be considered for what it is worth. I seriously doubt their ability to find a better slogan if the efforts are on a level with those of your correspondents "Vox Populi" and "Another Ex-Pupil."— I am, etc.,
