The chairman stated that the receipts for the month totalled £ 3710 3s Did, made up. as follows:—Ships’ dues, etc., £9GI Is 7d ; wharfage dues, £lO2l (is ; harbor contributions, £1727 Itis 3d. Tbe Levels Couniy Council, Tiinaru Borough Council, and Tcmuka Road Board had not yet [laid their contributions. During the month there had been a recrudescence of the old difficulty of shortage of trucks, and great inconvenience luttl been caused by tfie fact. In order to strengthen the Board’s hands in any representations made, to the Minister of Railways he (The chairman) had convened a meeting of representative citizens to discuss the mallei'. The meeting had boon held last Saturday, and a deputation was appointed to wail on Sir J. 'G. Ward on the occasion of bis visit id Tiinaru. The matter to be placed before the Minister would include, besides the shortage of trucks, the .deficiency in haulage power, and (he iwcd of an up-to-date weighbridge. NOTICE OE MOTION. Mr 1). G. Turnbull gave notice of motion —‘'That the by-law in reference to pilotage rates on page 33 of the Book of By-laws bo rescinded, and that (he by-law with reference to pilotage lie amended to 1-Ad per ton inwards and J Ad per ton outwards, in lieu of 2d per ton at present charged, and (hat m> exemptions be made with reference to cargo landed or shipped.” HARBORMASTER’S REPORT. The Harbormaster reported the arrival of 31 steam and 4 sailing vessels, of an aggregate tonnage of 49,532 tons, and the departure of 35 steam and .3 sailing vessels, of an (aggregate tonnage of 53,728 tons, for the month ending' 31st May, 1905. The weather during the month had been moderately fine, with smooth seas. The usual soundings had been taken during the month, and two of the screw moorings wanted renewing. The report was adopted. ENGINEER’S REPORT. ; The Engineers report was then discussed. With regard to the Kitson lights the engineer was directed to reopen negotiations with the agents as to the " ceist of (lighting the Main Wharf, and report at next meeting. During the discussion on dredging Mr Hole "aid that the report disclosed that tlie present method of dredging was most expensive. The Board should not shelve the question of procuring a suitable dredge any longer. Mr AngJund thought an endeavor should bo made to procure tlie use for a month of the Manchester dredge (Lyttelton) or some other such suitable dredge.
