The monthly meeting’ of the above club was held on Saturday evening, July Ist, in the Fairlie Reading Room. There were present Messrs J. S. Goodwin (chairman), C. J. Talbot, E. TV. Scott, J Trotter, and the Rev. TV. J. Comrie. Mr Comrie reported that he had arranged with Miss McLean to have The Contemporary Review for the reading room at half cost. Mr Comrie has been repurchasing this review from the club, after they had done with it, at half cost again, and as he will be leaving the district shortly Mr Talbot is going to take it at the same price. The caretaker, Mr Robinson, reported that the coffee club had been working satisfactorily for the first month. It was agreed to get larger cups for use, as the present ones were too small. The sub-committee for arranging the alterations tothebuilding reported that the carpenter was putting in 'the seats, shifting the bar, and effecting other improvements. Also, the oil cloth had been laid down, and a desk erected for the better accommodation of papers in the reading room. At this stage the Rev. TV. J. gymnasium room, asked for some extras in the gymnasium room, and the committee favourably considered the request. Mr Scott moved, and Mr King seconded, and it was carried, that the sum of £~> 5s voted to Mr Burn for his services in connection with the gymnasium room. Members said this was a very small amount for the time and trouble Mr Burn had devoted to the Fairlie boys, but in view of other liabilities the club had to nurse its funds. The meeting night for the ordinary monthly meeting was altered from Ist Saturday ic the month to the Ist Tuesday in the month, in consequence oi the secretary not being able to attend thai night, he having two other engagements tc attend to.
