GERALDINE.

The Geraldine Committee met in the Town Board office on Monday evening last, when the attendance was good. Mr A. White was' in the chair, and said that he considered the district had done remarkably well. Up till then £ll7 lis 8d had been subscribed, and there were still six more lists to come in. The only one to collect any produce was Mr Kelman, who collected £6 worth in wheat, flour, and oats. The object of the present meeting was to agree as to the best thing to do with the funds in hand.

Mr Flatman moved that £IOO be sent at once, and this was seconded by the Rev. Mr Preston.

Mr Allan moved an amendment that the money should be spent in goods in New Zealand, and sent in this way. This amendment was afterwards withdrawn in favor of one by Mr Webster, that £SO be cabled to Queensland at once, and that the rest of the money be spent in a parcel of mixed woollen goodß to be sent to Queensland direct from the Kaiapoi Woollen Factory, Mr White to see this carried out.

Mr Winstone seconded the amendment, and after a short discussion it was carried against the resolution by eight votes to five.

On the motion of Mr Ferguson, seconded by the Rev. Mr Preston, it was decided to send the £SO on Tuesday (7th). Since the meeting it was found that a mistake had been made in samming up the lists, and instead of £ll7 lis 8d it was £LI2 lis 8d received by Monday night. Up to the present date the treasurer, Mr White, has received over £l2O.
