The monthly report of the New Zea land Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) states the average wheal crop this season for Souih Australia it under 3 bushels to the acre. The wheal grown there is small and shrivelled, and it is expected that there wil l he very little available lor export from the colonv. Hobart, Feb, 10.
The Tasmaniau Government has definitely refused to ii.c<ease the subsidy paid by the colony to the Eastern Extension Cable Company. Sydney, Feb. 11.
Sir John Robertson, Premier of New South Wales, has received a telegram from Sir John Mncdonald, Premier ot Canada, sta'ing that the Canadian Governm-nt are desirous of having a conference wi'h the Governments of New South Wales and New Zealand on the possibility of establishing a mail service between the two countries, having a terminus iu British Columbia. The Canadian Premier trusts the subject will be mutually discussed before the final conclusion of any arrangements for subsidising a line via San Francisco.

cedence over all business. The majority of the members of the Legislative Assembly favor Sir Patrick Jennings, the present leader of the Opposition, being entrusted with the formation of a Ministry. An open breach occurred last night between Sir Henry Parkes and Sir John Robertson, the Premier. In the Assembly to-Jay, the debate on Mr Garvan's nr-confidence motion was commenced, and is still (11 p.m.) proceeding.
