SERIOUS RIOT IN LONDON.
London, Feb. 9
Crowds of roughs assembled this morning in Trafalgar Square and its vicinity, but were easily dispersed. The jewellers' shops, however, remained closed in anticipation of further violence. Public opinion generally blames the police for their inaction in the face of the riotous proceedings yesterday.

The Government will prosecute the leaders of the riot which took place after the meeting of the unemployed.
There was a considerable amount of excitement in the city and southern suburbs this afternoon, when it whs rumored that a hostile mob was marching in from Greenwich and Deptford. The rumor proved incorrect, hot tinmajority of the 6hops were closed, and n hundred extra policemen were stationed at various point?, wherever groups of roughs were congregated. The. events of the last few days havo yiven rise to a very general feeling of uneasiness among the residents of the Metropolis, and special precautions are beiDg adopted by the authorities to preserve order.

The rumors which gained currency yesterday afternoon that a mob was marching from Deptford proved baseless. The night passed off quietly. Smail gatherings took place at various poiu*B, but they were easily dispersed bv the police. Excitement was heightened, and increased anxiety was felt, towards evening.
