At a meeting of the Taranaki Swimming Centre at New Plymouth last night the chairman, Mr. F. J. The chairman expressed pleasure at the interest and enterprise shown by the .<;lub and assured it of , the centre’s support. The Fitzroy Surf Club recommended the reduction of water polo fees to 2s 6d. Mr. Moorhead explained the attitude of the club. It felt reduction would encourage entries and would not involve the centre in any expense. The chairman said the polo teams had to face fairly heavy travelling expenses. The present entrance fee was 7s 6d and the reduction to 2s 6d seemed too drastic. It was decided to reduce the entrance fee to ss. This will apply only to senior teams. The junior entrance fee is 3s 6d. Messrs. Sims, Thompson and C. Campbell were appointed a sub-committee to control water polo competitions. Noncompetition or friendly matches are not to be played without permission being obtained from the centre. The Taranaki championships were allocated to New Plymouth and Hawera, the dates being February 1 for New Plymouth and February 6 for Hawera. The 880 yards championship will be swum at Stratford on January 9 and the mile at the Fitzroy club's carnival on January 11. The intermediate 440 yards was allocated to Waitara for January 16a Messrs. Eggleton, Moorhead and Devine were asked to draw up the programme for the championships at New Plymouth and Hawera. Carnival dates were fixed as follows: Stratford, January 9; Inglewood, January 23; Fitzroy, January 11; Waitara, January 16; Eltham, January 30; Hawera, January 15; combined clubs at New Plymouth, February 15.
