CROQUET ACTIVITY
HAWERA AND PARK CLUBS. WEATHER INTERRUPTS PLAY. The competitions of the Hawera and Hawera Park Croquet Clubs have been commenced in spite of unfavourable weather. The Hawera club began on Tuesday, the Collins ferns competition being played. Mrs. J. Syme and Miss Johnstone won. To-day the first Dingle buttons handicap competition for A and B grade players and the Dowling buttons break competition will take place. The Park club- held its first club day on Friday, which was devoted to progressive croquet. Mrs. Chadwick (A grade) and Mrs. O’Brien (B grade) won the silver buttons. Monday was honorary members’ day, and Mrs. H. E. Cressey won the silver button for golf croquet. Mrs. J. W. Harding was drawn as the first holder in a gold button competition but was beaten by Mrs. Murdoch in the first challenge. Handicap A and B grad , games will be played to-day. CUP COMPETITIONS DRAWN. INTER-CLUB CROQUET PLAY. The Campbell and McL’Dowie Cup croquet competition draws have been made by the South Taranaki executive as follows: Avon v. Eltham, Hawera v. Patea, Kaponga v. Okaiawa, Park v. Mahaia, Stratford v. Opunake, Waverley a bye. Matches must be completed by March 1. The finals will be played at Stratford (Campbell Cup) and Avon (McL’Dowi; Cup) about the middle of March. The draw for the Lees Cup is to be made next week and the final will be played at Eltham.
