ELECTORAL REFORM
ADVOCACY BY INDEPENDENT.
DEFENCE OF GOVERNMENT.
By .Telegraph—Press Association.
Waipukurau, Last Night. Mr. John Ormond, jnr., the Independent National candidate for Waipawa, addressed tlxe opening meeting of his campaign in his home centre, Wallingford, on Friday. He was accorded a good reception, followed by a vote of confidence. He strongly favoured preferential voting and a more representative Legislative Council, but not an elective body. With qualifications he defended the Government measures to assist farmers. He considered it urgently necessary that larger areas should be split up into one-man holdings in the interests of men with experience. He advocated the introduction of capital for the development of poorer land.
