GATHERING AT MATAPU
EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE. The final euchre party and dance organised by the Matapu hall committee was held last week, there being a good attendance. Prize-winners were Miss Cora Phillips and Mrs. C. Bloor and Mr. Alec Lobban and Mr. R. Thomas. After supper a short dance was held, the music being played by Miss,, M. Guy. Mr. A. Guy was master of ceremonies. Basketball Final. The Matapu junior basketball team played the final with Mangatoki last week at Normanby and was beaten by 15 goals to 8. The senior had had a successful season, having won the division. Hunter Road Euchre Party. On Tuesday a euchre party and dance was held in the Hunter Road hall. Prizes were won by Miss Simpson, Mrs. Riley (after a play-off with Mrs. R. Startup), and Mrs. H. Startup and Mr. S. Bloor (after a re-play with Messrs. R. Carter and Rowlands). A consolation prize was won by Mrs. Anderson. Music for the dance was played by Miss Startup and Mr. L. Carter. Personal Items. Miss N. Rowlands has returned from Wellington, where she played with the Taranaki representative basketball team. Miss Irene Guy has returned to Okaiawa. Mr. L. Cleaver, who was a patient in a private hospital, has returned to his home. Mr. and Mrs. C. Luxton have been staying with relatives in the district. On Wednesday a surprise party was given for Mr. and Mrs. Darcy Parkes, who were recently married. The evening was passed with games and dancing. Those present were Mesdames Cleaver, Parkes and Freakley, Misses M. Guy, A. Cleaver, L. Foreman, Z. Cleaver and E. Bridgewood (Okaiawa). Mrs. Cunningham, Waimiha, is staying with her sister, Mrs. R. Hooker.
