CARD PARTY PRIZEWINNERS. Another flag five hundred evening was held in the Mata Hall last week, when there was a fair attendance. Those at the winning table were Mr. and Mrs. N. Lee and’Mrs. Dive and Mr. T. Lee. Miss G. Oldfield and Mr. N. Lee won prizes for most clips in their tickets. A Dutch Monte Carlo was won by Miss M. Lee and Mr. J. Oldfield. Mr. J. Campbell, Tirimoana, was master of ceremonies for the cards. Music for the dance was by Mrs. Attrfll with ’extras by Mr. B. Lowe. Mr. F. Martin was master of ceremonies. Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Laird and Miss Laird have returned from the north. Miss Evans, New Plymouth, who was the guest of Mrp. Mannix, has returned to her home. The factory commenced making cheese on September 1. CAPTAIN’S TEAM WINS. STRATFORD BADMINTON MATCH. A match between captain’s and president’s team was played by members of the Stratford Badminton Club on Monday night. The team chosen by the captain, Mr. L. Cameron, beat Mr. W. Mackay’s team by three games, 47 aces, to 2 games, 45 aces. Details of the scores, with captain’s team members mentioned first in each case, are:— Combined doubles: Cameron and Miss Wilmshurst 11 beat Mackay and Miss J. Macßae 6; Robertson and Mrs. Cameron 11 beat C. Ennis and Miss D. Pople. Men's doubles: Vivian” and N. Ennis 11 beat Mackay and McCready 9; Cam-, eron and Robertson 8 lost to Mackay and C. Ennis. Women’s doubles: Miss Wilmshurst and Mrs. Cameron 6 lost to Misses Macßae and D. Pople 11. A friendly match with Eltham players has been arranged for this evening at Stratford. The' following players will represent the Stratford club: —Miss Wilmshurst, Mrs. Cameron, Miss J. MacRae, Miss D. Pople; Messis. T. Boyle, L. Cameron, C. Ennis, W. Mackay, D. Robertson, A. Vivian, Oweri, R. Cutfield and I. McCready.

Eltham Labour Party Active. A committee of four was set up to further the interests of the Labour Party in the Egmont electorate at a meeting of the Eltham b meh on Monday. The object of the committee is to work in tlie interests of a Labour candidate should it be decided to contest the seat at the election. Fifteen new members were elected to the party and routine business was transacted. PERSONAL. Mr. and Mrs. G. N. Evans and Mr. D. McFarlane, Wellington, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. T. Rae recently. GENERAL ITEMS. Staff Accommodation. Work will be started soon on the erection of two cottages and a workshop at Tahora for the maintenance staff employed on the Arapuni-Stratford electric power line. The site selected is halfway between the eastern foot of the Tahora Saddle and the Tahora township. Bridge at Pohokura. The fillings forming the deviated approaches to the bridge on Ohura Road at Pohokura are fast consolidating, despite an exceptionally wet winter. The new bridge, a two-way concrete structure, will replace an old one-car wooden bridge, but is placed differently to avoid the bad approaches that existed before. i Toko Post Office. A new post office to replace that burned down a few months ago is to be erected at Toko. Work will probably begin in about a month’s time. Stratford Rifle Shooting. In a handicap miniature rifle shoot conducted last night by the Stratford troop of the Legion of Frontiersmen tire placed men were: S. Wright (scr), 49, 1; D. Vincent (.7). 48.5, 2; V. Madgwick (.4) and H. Scott (.4), 48.2, 3. Wright also won the button. Kahourl Bridge Euchre Party. There was a i.ur attendance at the final euchre party of a series in the Kahouri Bridge Hall on Friday night. Tire prizewinners were: Miss Q. Skedgewell 1, Miss R. Skedgewell 2, Mrs. Groshinski consolation; Mr. T. Bottin 1, Mr. Muir 2, Mr. Nicol consolation. The points prizes for the series were won by Miss P. Hunter end Miss R. Skedgewell and Mr. T. Kelly. A dance followed, music being supplied by Wright’s Dance Band. Mr. H. Hann was master of ceremonies. Central Division Hockey Team.

The central division representative hockey team to play in the George and Doughty Cup final at Kaponga to-morrow at 3 p.m. will be: Sheard (Urenui); Johnson (Stratford), Morgan (Kaponga); Nicholls (Inglewood), V. Betts <Kaponga), Evans (Kaponga’; Windle (Kaponga’, Pascoe (Kaponga), S. Betts (Kaponga), Humphrey (Tariki), Huffman (Urenui). Players not available are to notify the selector, Mr. Ebbett.

Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P. for Stratford, will deliver an address in King’s Theatre. Stratford, on Tuesday a* 8 p.m., when he will reply to the recent address of the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. M. J. Savage. .
