FINE NEW BRIDGE

OHURA ROAD STRUCTURE. TURN-OFF TO THE MOKI TUNNEL. Where Ohura Road turns sharply to the left to mount the approach to the Moki tunnel and saddle, a-new concrete bridge wide enough for two cars to pass comfortably is half completed. At ordinary times the creek spanned by the bridge is a mere trickle. Beside the narrow wooden structure it is to replace the new bridge appears at first sight to be far in advance of requirements, but the stream has to drain the Tahora valley and in wet weather it swells to proportions that endangered the old bridge. The new bridge will be almost three feet above the level of l the old one so that even heavy floods should not affect it in any way. The Ohura Road is a highway destined to increase in importance rapidly once the bugbear of the Moki Saddle is eliminated by the tunnel now under construction so that a bridge of ample size will be needed. New approach fillings are to be put in, giving much easier access on each side of the bridge.
