UNEMPLOYED CAMP SCHEME. INGLEWOOD COUNTY POLICY. Willingness to co-operate with the Department of Agriculture in ; the scheme that it has suggested for coping with the ragwort nuisance .by the establishment of comparatively small camps of unemployed men capable of ready transfer was expressed by the Inglewood Co.unty Council yesterday. The chairman, Mr. A. Cor kill, said the council should reply that it was in accord with the suggestion and that it would be pleased to meet the principal inspector, Mr. F. W. Sutton, at the earliest possible date to discuss details of the scheme. Continuing, the chairman said that last year there were only three places in the Tarata district that were causing trouble through neglect of ragwort. As far as he could see the council by agreeing- to the proposal WQglu not be accepting responsibility for any heavy payment. . The time was now ripe for dealing with the matter as at present the ragwort could be coped with effectively at an expenditure of only 20 per cent, of the sodium chlorate th£t would, be requifed to do the same work later. Some councils were prepared to strike a. rate over a certain area in order to safeguard properties now clean, but there would be no necessity to strike a rate for the purpose in. the Inglewood county. Gr. Willans expressed the opinion that there were some places in the backblocks where it would not be possible to cope with ragwort by means of sodium chlorate. . Cr. Jones said that in adopting the scheme there would be the big question of the transport of the men to consider. Cr.
