FAREWELL AT TUTUTAWA. MR. AND MRS MUGGLETON LEAVING A farewell social to Mr. and Mrs. G. Muggleton, Tututawa, who are to leave the district shortly, brought a record crowd to the Tututawa hall on Friday night. The hall was packed—an indication of the popularity enjoyed by the guests of honour. The people of the district felt that they could not allow Mr. and. Mrs. Muggleton f c leave without some token of remembrance, said Mr. Jacobsen. On behalf of the residents of Tututawa he presented to them a travelling rug and to Mr. Muggleton also a set of pipes. Mr. Corry on behalf of the tennis club presented Mr. and Mrs. Muggleton with a writing set. Both guests, said Mr. Corry, had bene members of the club for years and had done some fine work Corry, had been members of the club Had it not been for the generosity of Mr. Muggleton in supplying the shingle for the second court it w ; as certain that Tututawa would only have one court today. ’ It would indeed be a difficult task to find a better sportsman than Mr. George Muggleton, said Mr. Corry. Mrs. Muggleton had helped considerably in connection with the various organising matters.
On behalf of the Farmers’ Union Mr. Ure endorsed the remarks of the former speakers ’in paying tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Muggleton.
Mr. Muggleton expressed his thanks for the gifts. He was indeed sorry to be leaving, the district, he said, but owing to health reasons he was obliged to dispose of his farm. With regard to his support to the tennis club Mr. Muggleton said lie was sure that he had been fully repaid by the many happy times both, he and Mrs. Muggleton had spent with the club. Musical honours and cheers brought the presentation portion of the evening to a close. Euchre and dancing made up the entertainment side of the programme. The euchre prizes went to Mrs; G. Muggleton and Mr. N. Walker. Music for the dancing was supplied by Messrs. Harwood and Graham, and extras were played by Messrs. H. Rumball and N. Walker. The finishing touch to a successful social was supplied by Mr. T. Brough, who gave two humorous recitations—“ The Man From Iron Bark” and “The Tututawa Wanderers Return”—the latter being his own composition. Supper was served by a committee comprising Mesdames Harwood, Jacobsen, Reader and other helpers.
