AN EXPENSIVE TRIP
RUBY METEOR; ADALENE The trip of the Te Rapa trainer F. Tutchen to Riccarton with Ruby Meteor and Adalene looks like proving rather an expensive one. After Adalene’s fine form at Ellerslie and Ruby Meteor’s second to Valpeen at Trentham the prospects of the pair appeared decidedly bright. In the Grand National Ruby Meteor found the Riccarton fences anything but to her liking and she pulled up with a round to go. Adalene, on the other hand, ran such a good race in the Winter Cup that she was sent out a good favourite on both machines in the August Handicap on Thursday, but she ran one of her worst races and was a long way back at the finish.
