MR. BETTS’ SERVICES
LIFE MEMBERSHIP OF UNION. CONGRATULATIONS OF FARMERS. ■ i ■ The services given to the farming community by Mr. E. J. Betts, Okaiawa, as past-president of the South Taranaki executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, were acknowledged yesterday by several speakers at the meeting of the executive yesterday. Mr. Betts was congratulated upon his recent election as a life member of the Farmers’ Union. At the recent conference Mr. Betts was by unanimous vote accorded a very high honour, said the president, Mr. W. A. Sheat. Life membership was conferred only for outstanding services. Many people had asked him at the conference why Mr. Betts was not there, but through his election as a life member Mr. Betts would 'be entitled again to take his place among his • many friends at the conference. The president’s remarks were supplemented by Messrs. W. E. Carter, J. S. Tosland and A. B. Muggeridge, and a vote of congratulation was carried by acclamation. Mr. Betts said he naturally appreciated the honour conferred upon him, but he; would have been able to. achieve little without the splendid co-operation of those associated with him on the executive.
It was decided to present the life membership badge to Mr. Betts at a gathering to be held at a later date.
