KNOX CHURCH, PATEA
PARISHIONERS’ ANNUAL MEETING. PROPOSAL TO ERECT NEW HALL. A proposal to erect a hall to be used in connection with the church for Sunday school and other purposes was favourably viewed at the annual meeting of parishioners of the Knox Presbyterian Church at Patea on Tuesday. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. F. Naismith, Sutherland, Haswell and Burnett was appointed to bring down plans and estimates. A fund for the proposed building is .to be commenced. The managers’ report stated that during the year the church lost the minister, the Rev. A. W. Smaill, the pulpit being occupied for three months by Mr. A. H. Wilkinson, home missionary, before Mr. H. B. Burnett was inducted. The board of managers held several meetings, and Mr. R. C. Greenhill was elected to the board as an Opaku representative. A Young Worshippers’ League was formed at Opaku and regular church services were being held at Alton and Manutahi. The managers thanked the ladies’ guild for its work in the maintenance of finance, church cleaning and floral decorations. A liability of £44 5s in the beneficiary fund was reported, an increase of £lO since last year. Appreciation of the work of the P.W.M.U., Bible classes and others was expressed. Mrs. R. Hunger reported a membership of 18 in the ladies’ guild. The sum of £2l 10s was collected by the P.W.M.U. The Sunday school report indicated a membership of 46. The Alton Sunday school reported an average attendance of 41, and the combined Sunday school roll was 43.
Messrs. F. Lunn, J. Huston and J. Watt and Mesdames R. Hunger and N. A. Sutherland were appointed to the board of managers. Mr. W. H. Southcombe was re-elected auditor.
