NEW VOTING LAW?
PREFERENTIAL SYSTEM HINTED. NO DISCUSSION BY CABINET. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Lest Night. “I have not discussed it at all and am unable to say anything about it,”- said the Hon. A. Hamilton, acting-Minister of Finance, to-night, referring to a suggested alteration in the electoral laws. A message from Wellington published to-day Said political circles were freely discussing the possibility of an alteration in the laws before next election, involving a change to some system of preferential voting. The Minister added that the matter had never been discussed formally by Cabinet, although there had been a good deal of talk about it in the newspapers. Yesterday Sir Alfred Ransom, aetingPrima Minister, said that although the matter had been discussed tentatively no concrete proposal had been placed before Cabinet.
