ANGLICANS AT ALTON

BUILDING OF CHURCH PROPOSED. Alton was constituted a sub-district of the parish of St. George’s at the annual meeting at Alton last week, when the Rev. W. H. Walton presided. Good progress was indicated in the annual report and balance-sheet, with a substantial increase in attendances at church. Church officials appointed were: Vicar’s warden, Mr. W. M. Atkinson; people’s warden, Mr. E. Burnand; vestrymen, Messrs. L. Hunt, A. J. Gibbs, F. Nickel, L. Macartney, E. Lankshear, H. Palmer, W. ■ Proffitt, G. Amon, T. T. Foreman. It was decided to form a ladies’ guild. Mm. A. J. Gibbs to be president and Miss Foreman secretary. Discussion of matters pertaining to the building of a church in the district took place, when it was decided to call for tentative plans for a buildirig for location. on a site next to the hall. A general meeting of all church people is to be convened shortly, when the matter will be more fully investigated.
