A petition tor commutation of the sentence of death on Charles William Price for the murder of Evelyn Mary Madden is being forwarded to the Executive Council by Mr. W* S. Averill and Mr. T. E. O'Dowd, Hastings, counsel tor the defence. • t Mr. Averill said the whole question of appeal had been very carefully considered, and both he and Mr. O’Dowd agreed that Price had been given an eminently fair trial. There could be no question of misdirection by the presiding judge, 1 Mr. Justice Blair.
