Brokers’ Association reports that at the fifth and final sale of the season at Wellington on April 13 a total of 9758 bales was offered, 9193 being sold and 565 passed in. The net weight of wool sold was 33,797,5961 b. The gross proceeds were £92,331 4s 2d, the average price per bale £lO 0s IOJd and the average per pound 6.557 d. The gross proceeds of the five Wellington sales this season totalled £812,202, compared with £1,923,838 for the corresponding sales last season.

Wool available for the sales on May 8 totals 166,000 bales, including the following new arrivals: Australian 21,400 bales, New Zealand 42,500 bales. It is expected that 166,000 bales will be catalogued. The prospects for the sale are generally regarded as favourable. It is expected that the firmness of the overseas markets will be reflected here. The Germans have been actively buying in South Africa and South America and it is expected they will operate in London.
