NEW BUILDING PLAN

EIGHT STOREYS PROPOSED.

TENDER FOR £293,000 ACCEPTED.

Cabinet has authorised the acceptance of Mr. M. G. Templeton’s tender for the erection of an eight-storey building 139 feet high on Customhouse Quay for the Government Life Insurance Department. The building will be surmounted by a metal lighthouse with the upper part of the structure floodlit at night. The structure will be highly earthquake and fire resisting. The price is £293,000 and the contract is to be completed within two years. Work will begin probably next week.
