LOYAL WELCOME

APPRECIATION OF GOVERNOR.

IMPRESSED BY GUARD OF HONOUR.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, April 12.

The acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. A. E. Ransom, has received the following letter from the Governor-General, Lord Galway:— “I feel that I must take the first opportunity of expressing to you as senior Minister at Wellington acting for the Prime Minister my deep appreciation of the excellent arrangements which were made for the reception of Lady Galway and myself on our arrival in New Zealand to-day. It was evident that the greatest care had been taken in every detail to make the formal ceremonies the success they undoubtedly were, and I should be grateful if my warm thanks could be conveyed to all those who were engaged in the organisation of the ceremonies.

“I was very much impressed by the fine bearing of the guards of honour drawn from the Royal Navy and General Headquarters Training Depot. Their splendid physique and’ steadiness On parade were noticeable features. “It was most gratifying to Her Excellency and myself to see so many people assembled in the streets on our way to and from Government House and in the grounds of Parliament Buildings to bid us welcome. We felt at once the friendly and warm-hearted spirit in which they acknowledged our presence amongst them, and it contributed much to our happiness during the day.”
