SOCCER SEASON LOSS

INCREASED GRANTS TO SCHOOL. TARANAKI EVENTS REVIEWED. It is regrettable that the balance-sheet showed a loss on the season’s working, the chief reason being increased financial support given the primary schools’ Association, states the report of the Taranaki Football Association, which will be presented at the annual meeting of the association on Tuesday night, Players will agree that the money was well spent, continues the report. Replacement of damaged goal-posts and the increased expenditure in connection with the trip to Auckland were also contributing factors to the loss. The Stratford Club was successful in winning both the Julian and Duff Cups and is to be congratulated on the consistency of its play. The runner-up. in the Julian and Duff Cup competitions, Moturoa, was successful in the six-a-side competition for the Priest Shield. : The association congratulates the club. For the second year in succession Taranaki won the triangular contest against Wanganui and Manawatu. The Taranaki team visited Auckland and, although beaten by two goals to nil, gave a good display. It is hoped Auckland will send a team to Taranaki this season. Such a match would stimulate the game in Taranaki and give all interested an opportunity of seeing Auckland in action. The association expressed appreciation to’its patron, Dr. E. A. Walker, for. his assistance, and; to Messrs. R. J. Page, J. S. Paton, C. Collingwood, J. W. Hollows and W. Johnston for the use of cars and financial assistance. Thanks are also tendered the committee members and the referees, who controlled the games throughout the season. It is noted' that no referee had needed to warn or caution any player for malpractices, during the season. This spoke volumes for the splendid control of the games by the referees. The association appreciates the action of the Taranaki Rugby League in co-operating and permitting the association the use of Western Park for the Wanganui representative match. The association is also indebted to Mr. J. W. Hollows for the use of his office for meetings, to club secretaries for their co-operation and the Press for its splendid assistance.
